What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is a type of healthcare focusing on the alleviation of a terminally ill patient's pain and symptoms, rather than try to cure their disease, and attends to their emotional and spiritual needs at their end of life. The main goal of hospice care is to prioritize the comfort and quality of life by reducing pain and suffering.
What Diagnoses Qualify Someone for Hospice?
Hospice care is appropriate for patients of all ages who may have a terminal illness which reduces their life expectancy to 6 months or less, as certified by a physician. Some of these diagnoses may include cancer, heart disease and heart failure, Alzheimer's disease or dementia, COPD or lung disease, liver disease, HIV and AIDS, or kidney disease.
Where does Hospice Provide Care?
At American Compassionate Hospice Care, Inc. we meet patients where they are. This means that we will come provide care to our patients whether they are at home, in a nursing home, a retirement center, assisted living facility, or a board and care facility.
When is the Right Time to Begin Hospice Care?
There is no set timeline to begin hospice care, but the sooner we start the more effectively we can help enhance the quality of life for the patient and their family. Our staff is available to work with the physician and family to determine when the patient is suitable for hospice care.
Who Pays for Hospice Care?
Medicare, Medicaid, and most private health insurance companies pay for hospice care services.
Does Hospice Provide 24/7 Care?
While some may think hospice provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week custodial care, or full-time care at home or an outside facility, this is not the case. We do provide a lot of support, but most of the day-to-day care of the patient is provided by family, friends, and caregivers. However, our hospice care team is always available by phone 24/7.
